Wedding Trends: Liposuction Before the Big Day

There’s a growing trend of brides and grooms opting for plastic surgery to help make their big day a memorable one. Many brides have been dreaming of their wedding day for years but as the day approaches, they realize that their bodies may not be the perfect shape as they had been imagining. Brides who feel the need for a little bit of help are seeking out plastic surgeons. Liposuction is among the most popular procedures being asked for by blushing brides-to-be.

Trend Setters

Celebrities have been known for seeking out plastic surgery to help maintain a vibrant, youthful look. Everyone was talking about the Kim and Kanye wedding that took place earlier this year and how perfect Kim’s body looked that day. Of course Kim Kardashian is no stranger to trend setting. She received liposuction on her toes just before her wedding day. Toe lipo can help a bride stay comfortable in shoe styles that might otherwise be unbearable. This is certainly a less-common procedure but brides can look to trends like this to get creative about how they want to sculpt the perfect bridal figure. A liposuction specialist San Francisco patients trust can discuss the various body-sculpting options available to achieve that coveted look that many brides and grooms strive for.

How to Decide if Liposuction is Right for You

Pre-wedding diets can be the source of stress for many brides and grooms who are determined to look their best on their wedding day. Sometimes, even with impenetrable self-control, all of the calorie-counting and carb-reducing efforts cannot get those pesky inches to go away. When dieting fails, brides and grooms turn to liposuction for body contouring and removing excess fat. A liposuction surgeon in Francisco will recommend planning the procedure(s) well in advance before the wedding day. You want to be healed and comfortable on your wedding day. It is best to get any cosmetic work done at least one month before the wedding. In the book, Straight Talk From the Doctor by Uchechi Wosu, the doctor highlights the desire for people to look great for their wedding and how that desire may give people false expectations about what is possible with normal diet and exercise. The doctor went on to point out the immediate benefits of using liposuction to achieve the desired results.

It is important to note that your body needs adequate time to heal. Your liposuction surgeon in San Francisco agrees that strenuous activity should be avoided during the first month after a liposuction procedure. If you would like to read more about the procedure and what to expect, contact our liposuction specialist’s office at (415) 923-3800.

Study Shows that Changes in Breast Density Linked to Breast Cancer

Next to skin cancer, breast cancer is among the most common cancer developed among American women. Having a regular mammogram to screen for precancerous cells can lower women’s risk of death from breast cancer. Now a new study shows that breast cancer risk in women may be connected to the rate at which breast tissue density changes during aging.

Researchers from the London Breast Institute in the United Kingdom presented their case at the annual meeting of the Radiology Society of North America which reported that breast cancer patients under 50 years old had greater breast density than healthy women under 50.

Healthy women showed steady decline in breast density while aging. The American Cancer Society considers women with extremely dense breasts to be at a moderately increased risk of cancer and should see their doctors for multiple screenings annually. Researchers clarified that the study does not change the ACS guidelines, but the study can enhance the need screening for women with densest breasts.

Though medical experts agree that further research should be processed to determine the need for additional screenings of young women with dense breasts.

What Does that Mean for Breast Augmentation Candidates?

As of now, women do not need to be alarmed. Breast cancer risk does not increase the risk of breast cancer for women with breast implants. Regular mammograms should be performed as scheduled following breast augmentation. An experienced radiologist who has performed mammographies on women with breast implants should be notified about their presence prior to any screening. Proper precautions are taken for women with implants when screening to ensure that as much breast tissue as possible can be viewed on the mammogram.

Breast augmentation does not add on to a woman’s original breast tissue. The implants add shape, volume and proportion to a woman’s bust line. Research has yet to conclude that women with breast implants have an increased risk in breast cancer, so for now there is nothing to be concerned with. Your surgeon will give their professional opinion about the implant shape, size and volume to properly enhance your breasts. Liposuction Changing Military’s Battle of the Bulge

Recently, the Associated Press reported there were a number of military personnel turning to liposuction procedures to help them meet their weight loss goals. If these men and women are training day in and day out why do they need to succumm to plastic surgery?

Like many of us, their bodies are also unresponsive to extreme diets and exercise. Their inability to lose weight from troubled areas of fat cannot hinder their chances of achieving promotional opportunities and could potentially be kicked out of the military if they fail the Pentagon’s body fat test.

Military’s Fat Standards

The Defense Department reports that a soldier who exceeds body fat will not perform well on physical fitness challenges they are faced with in training or in battle. The margin of error during physical fitness exams is less than one percent for those who pass. The small fraction of service members whose fat and bulky muscles who do not pass the “tape test,” which measures body fat around the waist and neck, are placed on a rigorous diet and exercise program.

The men and women spend months in what is known as the “pork chop platoon” until they can reduce their measurements to continue their terms of full service. Should they fail three times they are kicked out, military officials say.

Since over 35 percent of Americans are obese, the past five years has shown an increase in expelled soldiers. Overweight Army soldiers removed, jumped from 168 in 2008 to 1,815. The Marine Corps, 102 in 2010 to 186 in 2011.

Why Do Soldiers Have to Cut Their Weight?

For one, soldiers are in fear of jeopardizing their career. Many soldiers have families to raise and cannot afford to be kicked out or at a loss of promotional opportunities. Thousands of new recruits who meet the standards of the tape test can be promoted quickly as opposed to a servicemen who previously failed the tape test.

Liposuction is the Permitted Solution

Many soldiers are already in shape, but their natural physique and genetics hold them back from meeting their weight loss goal. Since the Defense Department uses an unconventional method of fat measurements instead of the standard body mass index, soldiers have no choice but to resort to liposuction.

Very few crash diets do the job in achieving a healthier lifestyle, but many cannot successfully meet the measurement standards. Bulking up in the gym is another option to increase neck size to proportionally meet their waist size, but soldiers with the wrong genetic makeup may not see results until years of consistent exercise programs.

The military has a ban on surgical procedures unless there is a need for medical attention, but there is not a ban on liposuction for troubled areas of fat. Those with larger physiques acquire passable results for the tape test, following liposuction procedures.

To help maintain their terms of service for our country, men and women of the military make the change to their bodies to prove they are slim to serve in the military. Their extensive training and dieting programs are not enough to reduce their body proportions, which is what many American civilians struggle with everyday. Ask your doctor what liposuction can do to achieve a slimmer waist and neckline before enlisting in the military.

How can I increase the size of my calves? I work out but cannot see a change.

How can I increase the size of my calves?  Calf augmentation, or enhancement, is a procedure which involves mainly the placement of an implant to increase the “size” of the calve muscles. This is an important distinction because the goal of calf augmentation is to enlarge the muscle portion of the calves. Another-words, they make the muscular portion look bigger. To understand calf augmentation one must first understand the anatomy.

The calve muscles, gastrocnemius muscles, are actually two heads of one muscle. One is lateral, and the other is medial. The lateral head is wider, but shorter, and the medial head is longer, but narrower. The two heads then meet in the midline and, along with another and deeper muscle, called the soleus, join and form a tendon which forms the Achilles tendon that connects to the heel of the foot. The calf implant is meant to augment the muscle portion only, and not the tendon. This allows a much more robust appearance to the calve muscles, giving a much more enhanced and muscular look that people desire from extreme work-outs.

Calf augmentation doesn’t always make one look like body builders. It can used to refine one’s legs for a sharper and more attractive look. It works especially well for those who work out routinely but have a difficult time showing the fruits of their labor! Natural Breast Enhancement in San Francisco (Micro-Fat Grafting)

I'm skeptical about using implants in my body, is there any way I can have the size of my breasts fuller and larger without using implants?

Breast augmentations have traditionally been performed using implants.  These are usually in the form of silicone or saline filled.  The procedure involves placing the implant either below the chest (pectoralis) muscles, or directly under the breast tissue.  Patients who have breast implants are usually amongst the most satisfied of all patients undergoing aesthetic plastic surgery.  However, there are potential problems using implants.  Since the implants are man-made they will rupture at some point, necessitating their removal.  Also, infections, capsular contractures, improper positioning, large scars, inappropriate patient selection, and even the possibility of association with cancer are all possible pitfalls, or problems associated with implants.  Not to mention that their replacement, and other associated procedures, are real possibilities in the lifetime of implants.

Micro-fat grafting for breast enhancement is a relatively new procedure.  It is a very technically oriented procedure as well as artistically challenging.  No longer does a plastic surgeon merely place an implant.  The breast must now be sculpted.  Also, in order for the fat to survive, certain precise technical procedures and philosophies must be adhered.  The main advantages are that there are no implants to worry about removal at some point.  Also, the entire breast can be enlarged, not only a certain portion of it.  The main disadvantages are that approximately 2/3, or more, of the fat stays (if done correctly), and the amounts that can be placed are limited by the size of the breasts and the availability of usable fat from the patient.

My orientation is mainly using micro-fat grafting because I believe that natural breast enhancement is superior to anything foreign; however, there are exceptions (noted above).  More information can be found: http://www.privatehealth.co.uk/articles/april-2013/fat-transfer-to-the-breasts/

What is an Arm Lift and Who is It For?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU-WkLARP6o

People who have lost a large amount of weight are often left with excess skin in specific parts of the body. If the underside of your upper arms are sagging, droopy or appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat, an arm lift may be right for you.

While exercise can help strengthen and improve overall muscle tone, it can’t do much for skin that has lost elasticity. The arm lift procedure will help reduce excess skin and the fat between the underarm and the elbow.

Immediately following an arm lift procedure, you can expect immediate results, including smoother skin and a more toned and proportionate overall appearance. Once the swelling subsides, the results will be even more dramatic.

An arm lift procedure can be a very rewarding procedure, especially for patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery and suffer from folds of skin, rashes, skin irritation as a result of excess skin.

San Francisco Plastic Surgeon Dr. Shahin Javaheri can help educate you about the arm lift procedure, so that you know what to expect before you make a decision.
