Liposuction Consultation
San Francisco Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Shahin Javaheri, will review your medical history, examine you, discuss your goals, and finally personalize a surgical plan that will determine which technique of liposuction will yield the best results for your body.
About the Procedure
During the procedure, small incisions are made in the targeted areas that need sculpting. Through these tiny incisions, a saline solution is infused to numb the site, enhance emulsification, and shrink blood vessels. When the fat is emulsified it can be easily diminished and causes fewer traumas to the surrounding tissues. A narrow tube or cannula will be inserted and used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannuala is maneuvered through the targeted fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and reducing fat.*
At the time of your procedure, a tiny incision will be made at the target site and a narrow tube or cannula will be inserted and used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed and pulled through the targeted fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them out.
Liposuction is performed on an out-patient basis. Depending of the amount of fat to be extracted, the procedure may be performed under local, regional, or general anesthesia. Dr. Javaheri will determine at the time of your consultation on which type of anesthesia will be best for you.
What to Expect After Your Liposuction Surgery
After surgery, it is not uncommon to experience some excess fluid drainage from the incision site, swelling, and bruising, which may take up to three weeks to disappear. Medical compression garments and surgery supplements provided to you on your pre operative visit will help with the bruising and swelling.*
Your Recovery
It is important to realize that although the incisions are tiny, liposuction creates a large wound hidden under the skin, and the healing process will is gradual. You will be instructed to start walking around as soon as possible in order to reduce swelling, and to help prevent blood clots from forming in your legs. Most patients can resume light activities within two to three days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month as your body continues to heal. After three weeks, most of the bruising and swelling should disappear, though minimal swelling may remain for six months or more.*
Possible Liposuction Complications
Individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable. As with any surgical procedure, the risk of infection, poor healing scars, prolonged bruising and swelling are some risks.*
*Results for each patient will vary. Please remember that the information provided will not guarantee your eligibility for liposuction. Consultation and medical examination must be completed before approval.
