About Bariatric Surgery Procedures

Morbid obesity is now recognized by the general population as a contributor of many health problems, including heart disease, vascular diseases, venous inefficiencies, diabetes mellitus, hypertension (high blood pressure), various skin conditions, and many others. As the surgical options become safer and available to people who are morbidly obese, such as weight reduction surgery, or bariatric surgery, the resultant skin excess can cause many other issues for these people.*

Physical problems include chronic skin irritation, or intertrigo, which can result in hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) and even ulcerations. Most people are obviously happier after experiencing massive weight loss, but the large amount of skin excess can lead to psychological stress.*

Weight loss associated with bariatric surgery can result in massive folds of redundant skin that only shrink so much. These folds are common around the abdomen, waist, legs, arms, breast, and neck, and give people a whole different set of concerns.

This group of people can be helped immensely by the newer techniques developed for post-weight reduction surgery. The lower body lift, or circumferential panniculectomy, upper body lift, thighplasty (thigh lift), brachioplasty (arm lift), mastopexy (breast lift), gluteal lift (buttock lift), and even facelift can transform these individuals to very confident people who can now wear the clothes which previously were only others. No longer do these people have to wear tight fitting garments which would take time and effort to place under clothes, or would be very uncomfortable during warm days.*

Dr Javaheri has performed many of these types of procedures and every patient has had their life dramatically improved, and he considers this part of his practice extremely rewarding.*
