About Buttock Augmentation (using fat transfer and/or implants)

Men and women who opt for this procedure often feel more confident about their shape and proportions. The surgery is fairly straight forward; a well-hidden scar is strategically placed in the crease of the buttocks then buttock implants (made of solid silicone gel that cannot leak) are positioned between the layers of the muscle. The implant is positioned in an area that is well away from the bony aspect of the buttock, and should not hinder the ability to sit comfortably. The incision site is generally not visible even with a thong.
Buttock augmentation, also known as gluteaplasty results in the improvement of shape, contour and size. The procedure is designed not only to increase the size of the buttock, but, in many cases, to improve the shape and contour. Dr. Javaheri will design a surgical plan that is unique to your situation and desires for an improved overall appearance.
Are You a Candidate for Buttock Augmentation?
The primary candidates for buttock augmentation are people who are unhappy with the underdeveloped size, shape, and/or volume of their buttocks.
At the time of your consultation Dr. Javaheri will ask you about your general medical history, specifically pertaining to any medical conditions that could cause problems during or after your surgery, for example, uncontrolled high blood pressure, blood clotting problems, or a tendency to form excessive scars.
If you are a smoker you will be asked to stop smoking 1 month in advance of surgery. Regular smoking constricts blood vessels, and results in decreased blood flow to a given area, which can prevent normal healing.
About the Procedure (3 Approaches)
1. Buttock Enhancement using Implants
In most cases, buttock implants are made of soft but solid silicone gel which is inserted through an inconspicuous incision. The incision is made in the center near the tailbone and the middle part of the buttock muscle known as gluteus maximus. The imlants are inserted between the layers of the muscle resulting in additional projection and fuller shape. The surgical time is approximately two to three hours, and it is done on an outpatient basis.
2. Buttock Enhancement using fat transfer
Fat transfer method is Dr. Javaheri’s preferred method for enhancing the buttocks by adding additional shape and volume using your own tissue. Please note that buttock augmentations performed using a fat transfer procedure is a great alternative, but only if the patient has fat to spare. Fat is liposuctioned from donor sites (such as abdomen, hips, sides, thighs) and re-injected into the buttocks to sculpt a fuller, more rounded appearance. There is a portion of the fat will be absorbed by the body, so it is slightly over corrected at the time of surgery to compensate for this loss. The surgical time is 4-6 hours, and it is done on an outpatient basis.
3. Buttock Enhancement using implants and fat transfer combination.
Buttock augmentation is performed under general anesthetic. Dr. Javaheri will discuss your options in more detail at the time of your consultation.
What to Expect After Your Surgery
After your procedure, you will experience various degrees of discomfort, tightness, and swelling. You will be required to wear a special garment for a few weeks to aid in the healing and contouring process.
Most patients may experience moderate discomfort, particularly when sitting which can last for few weeks. Most patients can return to work after 7-10 days. Dr. Javaheri recommends that patients who undergo this procedure not sit for 2-3 weeks or put too much pressure to the buttock area to prevent further complications. Excessive physical activity, including bicycling, should be avoided until Dr. Javaheri gives his clearance.
Recovery and Possible Complications
Dr. Javaheri takes this very seriously and follows his patients very closely. Individuals vary greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable. As with any surgical procedure, the risk of infection is always a possibility. This can be minimized by the preventative administration of antibiotics both at the time of your surgery and afterwards while in recovery. Other complications specific to this procedure include capsule hardening around the implants, implant rejection and asymmetry, all which would require an additional revision should it occur. This is minimized in the fat transfer approach.
