About Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, is ideal for men and women with creased and sagging brows. Oftentimes, such features makes these individuals look mad, worried, or tired when in fact, they are pleasant and vibrant people. This cosmetic procedure makes it possible for individuals to appear happier and younger, as it involves lifting droopy brows and smoothing the crease lines of the forehead.

Despite the many benefits it provides, brow lift surgery also has possible consequences to one’s health. However, with double board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Javaheri taking care of you, chances of experiencing surgical complications are very rare.

Why Choose Brow Lift Surgery

Having a wrinkled forehead due to aging is completely unavoidable, whether we like it or not. Being born with heavily furrowed brows is even worse. No one wants to be seen as a huge grump for their entire life just because of their natural appearance.

Because people with these unfortunate facial features are constantly mistaken to be miserable or stressed out, the only way for them to rid of the misconception is by undergoing brow lift surgery. If you happen to be one of these people, this cosmetic procedure sounds is the perfect solution.

Aside from providing patients with a more youthful appearance and a sunny disposition, brow lift surgery also tends to be a confidence-booster. Individuals who are used to being perceived as unapproachable can finally have a look that matches with their personality.

Are You a Brow Lift Surgery Candidate?

The usual candidate for brow lift surgery include both men and women having problems with how their brows and forehead look. In general, anyone can be a brow lift surgery candidate, provided that he or she is in good overall health and has realistic cosmetic goals. People with poor physical and mental condition may be rejected for the procedure.

What to Expect during Your Brow Lift Surgery Consultation

During your first consultation for brow lift surgery, you will discuss your cosmetic goals with Dr. Javaheri. Be sure to talk openly about your motivation for deciding to undergo the procedure, as well as your expectations on the outcome.

In order to be qualified for brow lift surgery, you have to be physically healthy. You will be screened on your medical background. Dr. Javaheri will be asking pertinent questions regarding your past and present health conditions, followed by a physical examination.

Be honest when explaining your medical history. Mention past surgeries if you have any, as well as drug allergies and present medications.

Once Dr. Javaheri evaluates you as a good candidate, he will discuss everything you need to know about brow lift surgery. This will include a step-by-step guide of the entire procedure as well as any potential risks. You will be given pre- and post-op instructions to reduce possible health risks and quicken the recovery process.

Brow Lift Surgery: Procedure Explanation

Brow lift surgery is done in an outpatient setting, with its duration depending on the type of procedure used. Unlike many cosmetic surgeries, brow lift surgery can be performed in three different methods. Dr. Javaheri will choose the best method appropriate with your goals and facial structure.

In most cases, general anesthesia is used. Local anesthesia or intravenous sedation is also necessary on certain circumstances. Incisions are usually made in the hairline, though there are some instances where they are done in the forehead or the upper eyelids.

  1. Endoscopic brow lift

Short incisions will be made to your scalp, in which an endoscope will be inserted. With the use of a special camera and specific surgical instruments, Dr. Javaheri will realign the eyebrow muscles, pull underlying tissues of your forehead, and remove extra tissue and fat to achieve a natural look for your brows.

Many patients prefer this mode of brow lift surgery for a few reasons. Apart from its short recovery period, endoscopic brow lift is not as painful postoperatively as the other methods can be. Scarring is also infrequent, in contrast to traditional open brow lifts.

This technique is recommended for individuals with mildly to moderately saggy eyebrows and horizontal wrinkles.

  1. Open brow lift (Classic/Coronal/Trichophytic brow lift)

Unlike the first method which involves short incisions, open brow lift requires a longer incision across the forehead, either on a single crease of your forehead or on the area surrounding your hairline. The skin is pulled away from the underlying tissues, allowing Dr. Javaheri to loosen the muscles and remove the fat.

After excess skin has been fully removed, he proceeds to pull the skin. The procedure ends with your brow muscles being repositioned and stitched back together for a more pleasing appearance.

For patients with advanced brow droop and deep wrinkles, open brow lift is highly advised.

  1. Limited or Temporal Incision brow lift

Usually performed with eyelid surgery, this brow lift technique requires long incisions above both temples, behind your hairline. Dr. Javaheri will then lift and readjust the tissues located in your outer brow. Eyelid surgery follows, which is intended to smoothen frown lines in the brow area.

What to Expect after Your Brow Lift Surgery

Patients who have undergone brow lift surgery only experience a minor amount of discomfort right after the operation. Feelings of tightness in the forehead area are most common.

Expect swelling, numbness, and/or bruising on the first night after surgery. These symptoms will eventually subside within a span of a couple days. Certain instructions will be given to you before Dr. Javaheri allows you to go home.

Because swelling is commonly experienced by patients, here are helpful tips Dr. Javaheri usually provides:

  • Minimize your sodium intake.
  • Keep yourself hydrated.
  • Keep your head elevated, especially when you sleep.
  • Avoid medications that may cause further swelling.
  • Try to rest as much as possible.

Your Brow Lift Surgery Recovery Process

The recovery period will depend on the brow lift surgery procedure performed. The endoscopic method provides a faster healing time and fewer health risks compared to the classic brow lift. However, with the latter, a more dramatic look will be achieved.

Also, for patients undergoing brow lift in conjunction with eyelid surgery, a more extensive period of recovery is expected. Regardless of the brow lift surgical methods, sutures are removed usually a week after operation.

For your information, this is what usually happens during the recovery process of brow lift surgery:

  • You may resume normal activities, including work, within a week. Experiencing fatigue is quite normal during this period.
  • Once you are finished with your medications, usually after 1 to 2 weeks, you are free to drive.
  • You may go back to your workout routine 3 to 4 weeks after your brow lift surgery. You might have to check with Dr. Javaheri first, since there are still some activities that can be risky.

Possible Brow Lift Surgery Complications

As with all types of aesthetic procedures, brow lift surgery does have risks. The likelihood for complications to occur varies, depending on your health and lifestyle.

Among the potential risks of brow lift surgery include:

  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Prolonged swelling

As long as you are following Dr. Javaheri’s treatment plan, chances of experiencing any of these complications are very minimal.
