San Francisco Breast Lift Surgeon Dr. Javaheri Discusses Mastopexy Surgery

what is breast lift procedureBreast lift surgery (sometimes known as mastopexy surgery) is a highly satisfying plastic surgery procedure that enhances the overall appearance of a woman’s breasts. Your results will give you added confidence, plus the freedom to wear the styles you have always wanted, without feeling self-conscious about your breast size.

If you have ever stood in front of a mirror and wished that your breasts were firmer, higher and more youthful-looking, Mastopexy surgery may be a good option for you.*

Breast lift surgery can rejuvenate your figure that is often affected by gravity, past pregnancies or rapid weight loss. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts tend to lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag over time.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure used to reshape and raise sagging breasts without altering the overall size of the breast. In addition, Mastopexy surgery can reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. In contrast to the mastopexy procedure, the principle goal of breast augmentation and breast reduction procedures is to change the size or volume of one’s breast.

For some women, especially whose breasts have only slightly sagged, a breast augmentation alone may provide an adequate lift and firming of the breast. For other women, a breast augmentation and a lift may be performed simultaneously if both a lift and an increase in breast size are desired.*

Are You a Candidate for Mastopexy Surgery in San Francisco?

The best candidates for mastopexy are healthy women who suffer from sagging breasts due to the natural aging process, past pregnancies, or rapid weight fluctuations. Breast lift surgery is not recommended for women who plan to have future pregnancies. It’s best to postpone surgery until after any pregnancy and current breast feeding.

Though a breast lift does not normally interfere with future pregnancies or breast-feeding, it is important to understand that having a Mastopexy surgery will not prevent one’s breasts from drooping again if presented with the same circumstances that made them sag initially.

A consultation with board certified plastic surgeon, Dr Shahin Javaheri, is the first step in the breast lift process in San Francisco, CA. The intent of the consultation is to provide thorough education about the surgery, answer any questions you have and discuss your goals and expectations to help you make an informed decision. After your physical examination and discussion, Dr Javaheri will devise a surgical plan specific to your needs that will yield best results.*

About the Mastopexy Surgery

Breast lift surgery is an out patient procedure performed an accredited surgery center or hospital setting under general anesthesia. Surgical time is 2-3 hours During surgery, stretched and loose skin is extracted. The nipple and remaining underlying tissues are relocated to a new, higher position. The suture line or incisions depend upon the degree of sagging.

For women who have a moderate degree of sagging, a breast lift can be achieved with a technique that confines the incision to the area around the areola (the dark pink skin around the nipple).

For women with more severe degrees of sagging, the suture line will extend in a vertical line down toward the breast crease (also called the anchor lift). Dr. Javaheri will be able to inform you at the time of the consultation which situation will apply to you.*

Recovery After Your Breast Lift Surgery

After your Mastopexy surgery you may notice that the breasts feel unusually firm, particularly along the edges of the incisions. This sensation is the result of the normal healing process laying down elements of scar tissue to facilitate the healing process. You will be instructed to massage your breasts in order to speed-up the recovery process.

Most patients return to work in a few short days. If your job involves excessive stretching and lifting, it is advised that you refrain from these activities until Dr Javaheri gives you clearance. It is important that pre-operative instructions provided by the doctor are followed in a strict manner for optimal recovery and results.*
